He is named Brightexpectations but heavy rain has slightly dented Gai Waterhouse's confidence levels ahead of the colt's return this weekend.

Brightexpectations is ready to go in Sunday's $100,000 Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m) at Wyong and the rain-affected surface is Waterhouse's only concern.

"I think if it was a dry track he would be blistering," Waterhouse said.

"He's got a really good chance but the wet track could just take that little bit of brilliance away from him."

The three-year-old won last year's Wyong Slipper on the same program and he has been readied for his return with a 4-3/4 length barrier trial win last month.

A final field of 11 was declared on Thursday with Brightexpectations, to be ridden by Nash Rawiller, coming up with barrier 10.

Unbeaten Queensland visitor Flying Minstrel will start from barrier three with Glyn Schofield in the saddle.

The $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1000m) has a field of nine headed by unbeaten fillies Defiant Dame (barrier two) and Karuta Queen (five).

Waterhouse pulled the pin on Brightexpectations' spring campaign after sub-par performances in the San Domenico Stakes and Up And Coming Stakes.

The Pago Pago Stakes winner is being prepared for January's $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast which Waterhouse has won twice previously with Ha Ha (2002) and Biaggio (2003).

"I wasn't happy with him last preparation, he was growing and he was never quite there," Waterhouse said of the grey colt.

"I'm delighted with him this preparation, he's come back not bigger and stronger but just very athletic.

"He trialled well and I've worked him in company with some of our better horses and he's yet to be beaten."

Waterhouse had planned to put stablemate Squamosa through his paces on Friday but barrier trials scheduled for Randwick have been postponed until Monday due to Sydney's wet weather.

Runner-up in the Group One Golden Rose in August, Squamosa is also being aimed at the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast but Waterhouse has yet to decide where and when he will make his return.

"He needs that (trial) to get his fitness, he's just short of being peak fitness," the trainer said.

"I'll get the trial out of the way and then I'll program him after that, but he's only a couple of weeks off racing."
