In Manhattan Rain and More Joyous, Gai Waterhouse believes she has two of her best ever three-year-olds heading into an autumn carnival.

And the premier trainer can't see either horse being beaten when they resume in their respective races at Randwick on Saturday.

Manhattan Rain tackles the Group Two Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) while More Joyous returns in the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).

"I'm expecting both horses to win," Waterhouse said.

"I think both Manhattan Rain and More Joyous will be superior to their rivals."

Waterhouse hasn't started More Joyous since the filly scored a dominant win in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 3.

The trainer decided to bypass the Melbourne spring carnival with her and at the time predicted the filly would return and be a force in the autumn.

Waterhouse is confident she pulled the right rein by giving the filly a lighter spring.

"I think it will be a blessing for both horses," the trainer said.

"I only gave More Joyous and Manhattan Rain a couple of runs in the spring being very mindful their main mission was this autumn carnival."

The glamour filly worked over 1200m at Randwick on Wednesday and Waterhouse couldn't fault the winner of four of her seven starts.

"I'm absolutely delighted with her, she has done everything right, she looks a picture and has been training really well," she said.

More Joyous was then likened to some of Waterhouse's star fillies of the past.

"She is in some ways like Ha Ha and she is in some ways like Assertive Lass. Figure-wise she is more like Assertive Lass, but she is just a really, really exciting filly."

Ha Ha won Group Ones in the 2001 Golden Slipper and Flight Stakes while Assertive Lass won the Flight Stakes in 1996 and also the Group One Coolmore Classic the following year as a three-year-old.

Manhattan Rain's trackwork in preparation for the Royal Sovereign has been nothing short of sensational, according to his trainer.

Australian racing is blessed with some outstanding three-year-old colts in the current crop including Denman and So You Think.

"Manhattan Rain's as good if not better than all of them," Waterhouse said.

"I'm over the moon with him."

The Encosta De Lago colt hasn't raced since finishing second to So You Think in the Cox Plate.

He won his most recent barrier trial over 850m at Randwick on January 29 by almost four lengths, beating stablemates Theseo and Above Perfection.

Nash Rawiller will ride More Joyous in the Light Fingers while Blake Shinn will be aboard Manhattan Rain.
