Leading trainer Peter Moody is playing a waiting game with Wednesday's impressive Sandown winner Huegill before making a decision on a Caulfield Guineas start for the colt.

Moody said he would wait and see how the Guineas big guns such as Smart Missile and Helmet performed in their respective races at Caulfield on Saturday to get a guide on Huegill's prospects.

Smart Missile has drawn the outside barrier, 17, against older horses in Saturday's Group One Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

"If Smart Missile wins from there I don't think there's sense taking him on in the Guineas," Moody said.

"I think we'll learn a bit more about the supposed superstars this weekend and how they cope with the Melbourne form.

"They might be better than us which means we mightn't want to go to the Guineas, but if they're cream puff champions we might have to have a crack."

Ridden by Luke Nolen, More Than Ready colt Huegill was sent out the $2.25 favourite and came from midfield to run down the well-backed leader Rescue Mission ($5.50 to $3.60) for a comfortable 1-1/4-length win with Baron Douro ($7.50) the same margin away third.

"He got no favours. He got pushed off the track down the hill and on the turn," Moody said.

"He's a very good colt and still learning what it's all about. There are some good races in him."

Huegill made it two straight wins from four starts having won a Cranbourne maiden by six lengths when second-up early this month.

It was the second consecutive Sandown meeting that Moody had won with a Caulfield Guineas prospect, with Moment Of Change scoring impressively last week, and he rates both as Group horses.

"He (Huegill) should be going to a Listed race at Flemington on Sunday week and then probably going to the paddock because he's the sort of horse who could win the Australian Guineas in the autumn," he said.

"Whether he's mature enough in the brain to be going to the Caulfield Guineas is questionable but what will make that decision easier is seeing these other horses run."

Moody, who won the Guineas last year with the now-retired Anacheeva, has three horses left in the 1600m feature.

Golden Archer takes on Helmet in Saturday's Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), while the unbeaten Moment Of Change will run in the Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) under lights at Moonee Valley on Friday week.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile is the $3.20 Guineas favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Moment Of Change at $5.50, Helmet ($6) with Golden Rose winner Manawanui at $6.50.

Huegill is at $26.

Manawanui is the $1.18 favourite for Saturday's Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.
