The Peter Moody-trained Mid Summer Music is threatening to upset her stablemate and last year's winner Elumino in the All Victorian Sprint Series Final at Flemington.
TAB Sportsbet has Mid Summer Music as $4.60 favourite for Saturday's 1200-metre event down the straight while Elumino, who has been placed at her three runs this campaign, is on the fifth line of betting at $9.
Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Connor said there was little between the two five-year-old mares but on the firmer track Elumino might be good enough to win the final for the second year in a row.
"She has been going great of late and has very similar form to what she had last year going into this race which she won," O'Connor told Radio Sport National.
"She is very consistent without winning and while she is up a bit in weight this year all the form around her is pretty solid."
At her last two starts she has finished second to Second Effort who is $5.50 third favourite on Saturday.
O'Connor said Mid Summer Music deserved her chance in the field after winning seven of her 11 starts.
Last start she overcame interference on the turn to score a remarkable victory over Venus World at Moonee Valley on June 18.
"She has worked great since, had a nice little freshen up in between, and is going into the race as good as the stable can get her," O'Connor said.
