Three-year-old stablemates Excelltastic and Definitive get the chance in the Alister Clark Stakes to convince trainer Peter Moody they are legitimate contenders for next month's Australian Guineas.

Last-start Moonee Valley winner Arondight is Moody's third runner in Saturday's Group Two feature at that track but he is not nominated for the 1600-metre Guineas at Flemington on March 7.

"I'm not thinking any of them are 1600-metre Guineas-type horses but I might change my mind after Saturday," Moody said.

Excelltastic is $35 with TAB Sportsbet for the Guineas while Definitive is $81.

Arondight is the most favoured of the trio in the Alister Clark at $6 while Excelltastic is $11 and Definitive is the rank outsider at $26.

Stable jockey Luke Nolen will ride Definitive while Kerrin McEvoy is engaged for Excelltastic and Michael Rodd is on Arondight.

Moody said not much should be read into Nolen riding Definitive who is still a "big baby".

"Luke is on Definitive and not the other two because he is probably a bit tricky to ride," Moody said.

"He has always been a nice horse but has just taken a while to mature."

Definitive was a maiden after his first five starts before beating a big field at Ballarat over 1600 metres earlier this month.

"He is getting there and is probably looking for further," Moody said.

He said Excelltastic was clearly the most accomplished and proven of his Alister Clark runners.

The Exceed And Excel colt promised good times ahead after his first-up third to Fair Trade in the Group Three CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington earlier this month.

"He is a bombproof horse who races up on the speed and does everything right," Moody said.

Arondight has beaten much weaker fields at his last two starts at Stawell and Moonee Valley but Moody likes him.

"He is in good form coming off restricted grade races but that is probably the case for a lot of them in the race," Moody said.

The Danny O'Brien-trained Keano is the $2.80 favourite despite drawing the outside of the 10-horse field.

Last start he finished a luckless fifth in the CS Hayes.

David Hayes is bullish about second favourite Eagle Falls ($4.80) who won his last two starts at Morphettville and Moonee Valley.
