Trainer Norman Waymouth, fresh from his Group One Australian Guineas placing with Mister Milton, will test the colt beyond 1600 metres for the first time in Friday night's Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Waymouth's judgment was proven to be correct when he took on the big guns in the Guineas at Flemington and Mister Milton finished third at the huge odds of $91 behind classy filly Mosheen and Strike The Stars at Flemington last Saturday week.

"This race wasn't on the radar for him but he pulled up so well I've decided to accept with him tomorrow (Wednesday)," Waymouth said.

"I gave him a good gallop this morning and I will just monitor him during the week before I decide whether to run him.

"I want to run him to test him over the 2040 metres because if he runs it out it gives him more scope for later on in his career."

Waymouth paid only $7500 at the Autumn Yearling Sale in Melbourne for the son of Snippetson who is by Snippets and won up to 1400m.

Bred by trainer Rick Hore-Lacy, Mister Milton is out of Spinning World mare The Girlfriend who was unplaced in four starts.

The colt is owned by former jockey Waymouth and his wife Janine.

Famous for his association with 1982 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Rancher, winning nine in a row on the brilliant juvenile, Waymouth now has a small team of four horses in work at a time at Mornington and rides all his own work.

He has been training for a couple of years since a bad trackwork fall 10 years ago.

"I'm enjoying what I am doing," Waymouth said.

Mister Milton will have a break after Friday night and Waymouth has earmarked a tilt at the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 9 for him before he comes back to prepare for the spring.

The colt has had 12 starts to date for a win over 1100m at Caulfield in January at his ninth start and four placings for more than $180,000 in prize money.

He has had only one run outside of city meetings as Waymouth knew he had plenty of ability right from the outset.

Also among the 16 nominations for the Alister Clark are Victoria Derby winner Sangster, who ran 15th of 16 in the Australian Guineas, Norman Robinson Stakes winner Sabrage (sixth), Proliferate (seventh) and Tasmanian Oaks winner Rock Robster.
