Glowlamp has developed a reputation as the country's best maiden and her trainer Clarry Conners isn't holding out much hope that will change at Randwick on Saturday.
The filly makes her return in the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) with the 16-horse field headed by star three-year-old Samantha Miss.
Adding to Conners' woes is barrier 15 for Glowlamp while her stablemate Court has fared better in eight.
"Glowlamp has got to start somewhere but I couldn't believe where she drew," Conners said.
"It certainly doesn't make it easy for her and she might not be breaking her maiden on Saturday."
Glowlamp has been placed seven times from 13 starts including Group One thirds in the Champagne Stakes and Thousand Guineas.
She ran sixth in the VRC Oaks won by Samantha Miss but Conners said Glowlamp would more than likely be restricted to shorter races this autumn.
"I don't think we will be going up to 2400 metres this time, I think she is better suited to around 1600 metres and we might even have a go at the Randwick Guineas with her," Conners said.
That path would avoid too many clashes with Samantha Miss who is heading to the Oaks.
Trainer Kris Lees said Samantha Miss was not quite as forward as she was when she won over 1200 metres in the spring but that has not deterred punters.
Samantha Miss was on Friday at $2.50 to win the Light Fingers with Anatomica and Love And Kisses next at $10 and Glowlamp and Court both at $18.
"Samantha Miss is a champion filly, a champion three-year-old and has the class to win," Conners said.
"I'm just hoping for good runs from my two."
Court struggled to get a clear run when she resumed in an open three-year-old race at Rosehill on January 31 and her third behind Bhutane Dane and Atomic Force was full of merit.
"She was pretty unlucky last time and could have made it very interesting," Conners said.
"She is a nice filly. She's not as experienced as Glowlamp but she has a very bright future."
The only horse to draw worse than Glowlamp was Portillo who also spent the spring at the mercy of Samantha Miss.
Placed in the Golden Slipper, Portillo ran second to Samantha Miss in the Group One Flight Stakes after finishing third and fourth to her in lead-up races.
