A little-known record will tumble if Whobegotyou can overcome a horror draw and claim another Group One in the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.

Whobegotyou's chances appeared to suffer a setback after drawing gate 19 at Wednesday's barrier draw while early favourite Ortensia drew marginally better in 15.

No horse has won the 1350-metre feature first-up from a spell since the race was moved in 1988 from its former July date to precede the Group One Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm in June.

Whobegotyou, who has two Group One victories in the Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield last October and the Caulfield Guineas in 2008, is stepping out for the first time since finishing sixth to So You Think in the Group One Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in October.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh dismissed the wide draw as a concern for Whobegotyou and was unaware of the statistic against horses resuming in the Doomben 10,000.

"There's 18 better barriers I suppose and I'm unaware and unfazed about the statistic," he said.

"I'm not sure if there has been many horses who have resumed in this race in the past."

Kavanagh believes Whobegotyou is primed for a strong first-up bid after giving him three jumpouts in Melbourne.

History also suggests Whobegotyou and Ortensia may have their work cut out in the 10,000 as no horse has won from outside barrier 12 since Suntain was successful from gate 13 in 1996.

Whobegotyou arrived safely from Melbourne by plane on Wednesday, later than planned after his original flight was aborted on Monday night.

Despite the wide draw, Whobegotyou remains on the third line of betting with TAB Sportsbet at $5.50 with Ortensia retaining favouritism at $4.

Sydney mare Hot Danish, who won't arrive in Brisbane until Thursday, is second favourite at $4.80 after drawing ideally in barrier three.

Ortensia's trainer Tony Noonan was delighted with his mare's draw.

"I'm ecstatic. Wider the better," Noonan said.

"I wanted a wide draw for her because she needs room and no-one will get in her road from there.

"She couldn't get out and get her momentum going when she ran fifth in the BTC Cup and I don't think Whobegotyou will be too disadvantaged by his draw.

"He gets back and my worry now is that he might attempt to put us in a pocket."

Ortensia will be striving for her own place in history by ending a horror run for mares in the race.

Only four mares have been successful in the race since its inception in 1933.

Flitter was the last mare to win in 1994 which ended a long losing streak since Maybe Mahal's victory in 1977.

The only previous mares to win the Doomben 10,000 were High Benia in 1936 and Hamurah in 1938.
