If Mick Kent hasn't yet heard from Christophe Soumillon, he should expect a phone call from the champion jockey sometime soon.
Soumillon declared after riding Tac De Boistron to victory for French trainer Alain Lyon late last year that he would be the ideal horse to bring to Melbourne for the Spring Racing Carnival.
The six-year-old son of Take Risks is bound for Australia, but Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent will oversee his spring campaign following his purchase by Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock.
"Christophe Soumillon rode him in his win just before Christmas and also at his last win and he suggested to the trainer that he was a horse they should be looking at the Melbourne Cup with," Racing Victoria's international scout Leigh Jordon said.
"So he's obviously very highly-rated over there."
Tac De Boistron was this week among the nominations for the $2.65 million BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) on 20 October with the $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup also on the agenda.
A winner of four of his 22 starts, Tac De Boistron's latest win came in the Group 2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil (2800m) on 14 July when several high-profile Spring Racing Carnival prospects were among the beaten brigade.
Vadamar and Shahwardi, BMW Caulfield Cup nominations for Melbourne Cup-winning trainers Mikel Delzangles and Alain de Royer Dupre respectively, filled the minor placings with Brigantin among the also-rans.
Tac De Boistron also had Shahwardi's measure when winning the Listed Prix Denisy (3100m) on 12 November and in April this year ran third, three quarters of a length behind OTI buy Prairie Star, in the Group 3 Prix de Barbeville (3100m).
"He's probably flown under the radar a little, but his formline is very good," Jordon said. "He's a solid horse that's been running good races in Listed company and last start he really stepped up to the mark.
"His last run was very good, he showed a very good turn of foot and was a bit unlucky in the run too and would have been a good thing beaten if he hadn't have won.
"The way the French horses have performed the past two years he puts himself right in the mix."
Tac De Boistron adds to an already strong spring hand for Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, who will campaign two additional international purchases in Melbourne.
Jakkalberry was also nominated for the BMW Caulfield Cup with younger half-brother Crackerjack King, who like Jakkalberry is trained by Marco Botti, being set for the $3 million Sportingbet Cox Plate on 27 October. (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
