Trainer Guy Walter says The Astronomer must win Saturday's Hawkesbury Guineas to warrant a trip to the Brisbane carnival.

The three-year-old will be on trial for next month's Group Two Queensland Guineas when he competes in the 1400m Listed Hawkesbury feature for which 10 horses have been nominated.

The Astronomer comes into the Hawkesbury race in good form having run a short neck second to Queensland Derby bound stablemate Orca in the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 11.

Orca is already in Brisbane and will begin his quest for next month's Group One Derby (2400m) in the Group Three Doomben Classic (1615m) on Saturday.

He will then run in the Group Three Rough Habit Plate (2020m) on May 23 before tackling the Derby at Eagle Farm on June 6, the same day as the Guineas (1600m).

Stablemate Yallingup who beat Orca last start in the Group Three Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on April 18 has gone to the spelling paddock.

Walter says the The Astronomer has thrived since the Carbine Club.

"He's done very well and his work has been pleasing," Walter said.

"Barriers will be crucial on the tight track, hopefully he can draw an alley and if he does then he will be ridden a little bit closer.

"He has to win to go to the Queensland Guineas."

The Galileo gelding came from near the back of the field in the Carbine Club.

Regular jockey Rod Quinn is expected to retain the ride on The Astronomer who has won two of his six starts.

Walter also has Mr Incredible resuming at Hawkesbury on Saturday in the open 1200 metre race while stablemate Guru will run in a rating 91 race over 1400 metres.

The consistent four-year-old comes off a half neck second to Without Compromise over 1200 metres at Randwick on April 11.

Stablemate Lyncean Academy comes back in distance to the Rowley Mile which also has 10 entries with nominations extended until Tuesday morning.

Lyncean Academy finished a short neck second to Prima Nova in the Listed JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick on April 18.

He was withdrawn from last week's Wagga Cup when he drew a wide alley.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Prima Nova was a close fourth in the Saturday's Group Two Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast won by Fulmonti.
