Gerald Ryan has put a line through Hothavananights' disappointing last start and the trainer believes his charge will rise to the challenge of stakes racing in Saturday's Listed Hawkesbury Guineas.

Punters agree, with Hothavananights one of four runners locked in second favouritism on TAB Sportsbet at $6 along with Related, Back Off and Yesterday while The Astronomer is the top pick at $4.

Hussonet gelding Hothavananights is backing up in the Listed 1400-metre race a week after running fifth to Geared Up at Rosehill.

"He lost a plate in the run and it was a poorly-run race," Ryan said.

"But he's done well since and will run well Saturday.

"He's been very consistent this time around and deserves a crack at the stronger horses."

Prior to his last outing, Hothavananights won over 1250 metres at Canterbury on April 8 giving him consecutive victories after his triumph at Newcastle in March.

Hothavananights has never won over Saturday's distance but has been placed over 1350 metres and ran fifth, beaten less than two lengths, over 1500 metres.

"Until they win over the trip it's a query but I've got no problems with him running it," Ryan said.

"He was strong at the end of 1250 metres at Canterbury after being wide through the run."

Tye Angland has the ride on Hothavananights who has drawn barrier two.

"It's a great draw for him and the tight track will be of no concern, he'll be up in the first few," Ryan said.

The Rosehill trainer said there were no plans to take the horse to Brisbane for the winter carnival.

"He had a couple of setbacks after his first-up run in January so he'll only have this run and perhaps one more and go for a spell," Ryan said.

Stablemate Animando is resuming from a 12-week spell in the Concole Concrete Sweepstakes Handicap (1200m).

The Show A Heart four-year-old was in sparkling form prior to his break landing consecutive wins at Kembla in January and Wyong in February, both over Saturday's distance.

"He showed in his last start that he can handle a heavy track so we thought we'd put him out and bring him back for winter races," Ryan said.

"He hasn't had a trial going into this but he's held his condition really well and is pretty forward for this."
