Punters have been clamouring to back the Peter Snowden-trained Yesterday in Saturday's Listed Hawkesbury Guineas.

The Red Ransom filly opened at $6 on TAB Sportsbet for the 1400-metre feature but was crunched in to $3.80 favouritism, taking over as the top pick from The Astronomer who drifted from $4 to $4.40.

Snowden commented on the importance of a good barrier on the tight, turning Hawkesbury track.

Yesterday drew barrier one of 13 and that proved the catalyst for punters to launch into the stakes winner who will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.

The filly comes into the race after rattling home from last on the turn to finish 1-1/4 lengths third to Silently in the Listed James HB Carr Stakes over Saturday's distance on Anzac Day.

In November last year, Yesterday won the Listed Le Pine Funeral Stakes (1400m) at Sandown after jumping from barrier five of 11 with McEvoy having the filly in fourth spot near the 400 metres before she reeled in the leading pack.

One horse punters have been staying away from in the Guineas is Admirals Honour who has drifted from $18 to $21.

But trainer Stephen Hood believes Admirals Honour is a better chance than his price suggests.

"I definitely think he's over the odds," Hood said.

"He's done so well during the week and I think he'll run a very good race."

Admirals Honour is backing up a week after running ninth to Geared Up at Rosehill where he was posted wide throughout the 1300-metre race.

The Honours List gelding came into the race after consecutive wins at Warwick Farm in March and then on the Kensington track at Randwick in April, both over Saturday's distance.

Hood said Admirals Honour would be rolling forward from barrier 11.

"I'd love to see him lead," Hood said.

"He'll be going forward, this won't be a slowly-run race."

Sydney's reigning premier apprentice Peter Wells takes over on Admirals Honour from the suspended Hugh Bowman.

Wells, 24, returned to action at Gosford on Thursday after almost a month on the sidelines with a foot injury.

"I'm very happy to have Peter on the horse, he rides on a nice long rein like Hughie Bowman and that's the key to this horse, to let him roll that little bit," Hood said.

Wells outrode his claim with his victory aboard Emperator on April 1 and his apprenticeship ends in July.
