Gai Waterhouse's leading Magic Millions carnival contenders - headed by talented colt Squamosa - will be out in force on Boxing Day.

Squamosa, this year's Golden Rose runner-up, makes his return against older horses at Randwick with Nash Rawiller to ride.

The colt is the $3.40 favourite for next month's $1 million Magic Millions Guineas ahead of his Golden Rose conqueror Toorak Toff at $4.

"Squamosa has come back really well, he's bloomed," Waterhouse's stable representative Mark Webbey said.

"He's come back stronger, he's had two effortless trial wins and he's just done everything right."

The impressive colt burst onto the scene with three straight wins during winter before his brave second in the Golden Rose to Toorak Toff at Rosehill on August 28.

Webbey said the stable would have liked to run Squamosa first-up against his own age but there wasn't a suitable race for him this week.

But Webbey is confident the colt has enough quality to handle the tougher assignment.

"I think he's a very, very good racehorse," Webbey said.

"He'll progress to the Magic Millions (Guineas) after this."

Waterhouse has four entries for the Randwick meeting while Brightexpectations will run in the Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben in his final lead-up to the Guineas.

Randwick's feature race on Sunday is the Group Three Summer Cup (2400m) where the Waterhouse-trained Rock Kingdom will be out to go one better than his past two starts.

Last year's Epsom winner was second in the Listed Canberra Cup two starts ago and then found one better again in the Listed Christmas Cup behind Bellagio Wynn.

Rock Kingdom was one of 14 nominations for the Summer Cup but entries have been extended until 11am on Tuesday.

Bellagio Wynn and Christmas Cup third placegetter Jungle Rocket are also among the entrants.

Rawiller jumps back aboard Rock Kingdom after missing the Christmas Cup as he was having a short break in Hong Kong after competing in a jockeys challenge.

Rock Kingdom is nominated for the Magic Millions Stayers Cup next month but would have to drop back from 2400m to 1800m if he was to head that way.

Rawiller is also booked to ride Flying Success in a 1600m race on Sunday but the stable remains undecided about a Boxing Day start or save the mare for New Year's Day.

Meanwhile, three-year-old filly Teardrop Rock, who has won her past three starts, will have the services of Tim Clark on Sunday.

"She's nominated for the Magic Millions (Guineas) but we'll also look at a couple of races in Tasmania for her after this weekend," Webbey said.
