Gai Waterhouse has decided against starting Squamosa at Randwick on Sunday and plans to run the colt first-up in the Magic Millions Guineas next month.

Squamosa was nominated to make his return in a Benchmark 85 this weekend but Waterhouse wasn't happy with the Golden Rose runner-up on Wednesday and has decided against running him.

"I'm going to take him straight to the Magic Millions," Waterhouse said.

"I wasn't 100 per cent happy with him this morning so I would sooner give him a little time. There's a million-dollar race waiting for us on the 15th (of January), I would sooner set him for that."

Squamosa hasn't raced since his game second to Toorak Toff in the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on August 28.

The colt had won his only three starts prior to the Golden Rose and is the current Magic Millions Guineas favourite with TAB Sportsbet at $2.80.

Waterhouse said the colt didn't have any problems but she wasn't happy enough with him to take him to the races on Sunday.

"I just wasn't 100 per cent happy with him this morning. I thought to myself there's too much money involved, I'll give him a couple of days just going to the beach and shooting the breeze and reassess him.

"If he goes to the Magic Millions he'll run first-up there."
