Gerald Ryan is hoping to see a more tractable Road To Summer when the colt races in stakes company for the first time at Randwick on Saturday.

An impressive debut winner at Warwick Farm last month, Road To Summer went too hard in front last Saturday at Rosehill and was overrun in the straight to finish fourth to talented filly Florentina.

Ryan can see no reason why the son of Danroad will not take the seven-day back-up in his stride when he contests the Listed Rosebud Quality (1200m).

Road To Summer opened at $11 with TAB Sportsbet on Wednesday but has tightened to $9.50 with the David Payne-trained Queenian favourite at $3.30.

"He just raced a bit keen, a bit fierce in front last Saturday," Ryan said.

"I'd like to see him ridden a bit quieter.

"His first start was a very good win and the horse that finished fourth that day (God Bless Us) came out and won on Wednesday."

Ryan said Road To Summer had come through his run last weekend in good order.

"You don't really know until you try but he's a tough horse and I don't think it (backing up) will worry him," he said.

"He hasn't missed a beat."

Road To Summer is not nominated for the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on September 10 and Ryan believes whatever the colt does this preparation he will be better as an autumn three-year-old.

Nathan Berry has ridden Road To Summer in his first two starts but Brenton Avdulla has the ride in the Rosebud with Berry on last-start winner Aeronautical.

Aeronautical produced a powerful finish to win eased down in a 2YO Open Handicap over 1200m at Randwick on July 9.

Berry finished his apprenticeship earlier this year and is working hard on establishing himself in Sydney's senior riding ranks.

"If this horse wins on Saturday it would definitely be an asset in my career at this stage," Berry said.
