Gerald Ryan has had a change of heart regarding Tommifrancs who will now join stablemate Crums in the Tattersall's Club Cup at Randwick on New Year's Day.

The trainer had planned to save Tommifrancs for either the Underwood Cup on January 17 or the Australia Day Cup but the horse's condition has persuaded him otherwise.

He finished fifth to another stablemate Ready To Lift in the Summer Cup (2400m) on Boxing Day.

"He hasn't missed a beat since the Summer Cup," Ryan said.

"He backed up six days after he ran in the Canberra Cup to win a welter at Rosehill.

"I don't know if you can back them up quickly twice in a preparation but I can't fault him and he deserves a chance.

"And if he doesn't run there isn't another race for three weeks."

Ryan has no qualms about Crums backing up from his second to Penrickson over 1800 metres at Rosehill on Saturday.

"He has done very well and goes so well at Randwick that he will have no trouble with the quick back-up," Ryan said.

Crums won two races over 2000 metres at Randwick in February this year.

He ran second to Tommifrancs at Rosehill on December 6 before his second on Saturday.

The trainer is a shareholder in Crums, who is by Danehill out of outstanding racemare Champagne.

The lightly-raced seven-year-old has never quite lived up to his breeding but has amassed more than $200,000 with his record of five wins and seven placings from 21 starts.

Tommifrancs did his early racing in Melbourne with Lee Freedman where his biggest win came in the Bagot Handicap three years ago.

Ryan said he would accept with new stable acquisition Fangles in the other Randwick feature, the Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m) but would save Flushing Meadows for a restricted race over the same distance on Saturday.

Utzon, winner of the 2006 Villiers Stakes has 61kg topweight for the Carrington while Spinney heads the weights for the Tatt's Cup with 58kg.

Fangles has 53kg in the Carrington while Tommifrancs has 56kg and Crums 53kg.
