Trainer Gerald Ryan continued his domination of the summer features when Tommifrancs took out the Listed Tattersall's Club Cup at Randwick.

The Ryan-trained Ready To Lift won the Christmas Cup-Summer Cup double with Tommifrancs fifth to his stablemate in the latter race on Boxing Day.

Tommifrancs' win came three years after his biggest victory in the Bagot Handicap at Flemington when he was trained by Lee Freedman.

The seven-year-old pulled up so well after the Summer Cup Ryan decided to back him up on New Year's Day, a move that worked with him after he was unplaced in the Canberra Cup and came out and won six days later at Rosehill in early December.

"He was so fresh on Monday that I thought he should run," Ryan said.

"He looked fantastic today, he was dappled up and was a picture of health.

"Backing a horse up twice in a preparation is not something I would normally do but it seems to work with him.

"It's three years since the Bagot but now I think he is better suited to the 2000 metres than the longer races."

The free-running Penrickson, winner of his past three starts, was sent out favourite at $3.80 and took up his customary role at the front of the field.

He stretched out to a big lead in the straight but Glyn Schofield timed his run perfectly on Tommifrancs to overhaul the leader and go on to a 1-1/4 length win.

Kettledrum finished on well for third another length away.

Ryan said the Frank Underwood Cup (2000m) at Rosehill on February 17 would be the next step for Tommifrancs and he could possibly then back up again in the Australia Day Cup (2400m).

"Things are going very well at the moment," Ryan said.

"Hopefully we can keep things rolling."

Tommifrancs started at $11 with punters rallying to Alverta ($8.50 to $5.50) and Spinney ($8 to $6).

Spinney ran an even race without ever looking a threat to finish sixth while Alverta was doing her best work late to finish one position better, 3-1/4 lengths from the winner.
