Epsom Handicap favourite Raheeb has warmed up for his Group One assignment with an effortless win in a barrier trial at Randwick Friday.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Raheeb was kept three wide by Danny Nikolic throughout the run before cruising to the lead on straightening in the opening heat of the morning over 1200 metres.

Raheeb's head barely left his chest with Nikolic keeping a tight grip to the line where he defeated the Les Bridge-trained Sir Wally by a long neck.

Raheeb's stablemate Red Lord who is favourite for the Metropolitan Handicap Saturday week, the same day as the Epsom, flew home to run 1-1/4 lengths third in Raheeb's trial.

Raheeb stormed into favouritism for the Epsom after he beat the Gai Waterhouse-trained Ashikaga by 3-1/4 lengths to win the Group Three Cameron Handicap (1400m) on September 17.

That performance followed Raheeb's thrilling half head second to subsequent Group One winner Typhoon Zed in the Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 30.

Typhoon Zed defeated Absolut Glam in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley at his next start.

Red Lord has been racing well this campaign is and coming off a half head second to Hurrah in the Group Three Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on September 13.

Hurrah set a cracking pace in the race, with jockey Hugh Bowman to a lead of around 10 lengths mid-race.

The gap was three lengths at the 200 metres with Red Lord wearing him down but falling agonisingly short for those who backed the $1.85 favourite.

Red Lord is the TAB Sportsbet $3.80 popular elect for the Metropolitan while Raheeb is at $3.50 in the Epsom.

The Peter Snowden-trained Musket, who returned to form with victory in last week's Shannon Stakes, received a one kilo penalty for that win to ensure an Epsom start and he is a $9 chance.
