Group One-winning mare Ortensia laid the foundation for an overseas campaign with an easy Sydney barrier trial win on Monday.

Stepping out in public for the first time since a belated Group One victory in the Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot in November, Ortensia won a 1000m Randwick heat in 59.5s.

Trialling on the Kensington track, Ortensia had almost two lengths to spare over Darley mare Mascareri with Group One winners Ilovethiscity, All Silent and Metal Bender among the unplaced runners.

"Ortensia will fly out of Australia on (the) 12th (of) March," trainer Paul Messara reported on his website.

The six-year-old will contest the Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) during the Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan on March 31.

Messara is then expected to extend her international campaign to include races in England.

The Scone-based trainer is no stranger to overseas racing.

His formative years were spent in top stables in England, Ireland and France and in 2010 he campaigned top mare Alverta in Europe with her Group One July Cup placing a highlight of three starts.

Ortensia will be making her second bid for overseas success after finishing fifth in the 2010 Hong Kong Sprint when trained in Victoria by Tony Noonan. The mare was stripped of her 2010 win in the Group One Galaxy when she returned a positive swab but no action was taken against the trainer.

Among the two-year-old trial winners on Monday was the Anthony Cummings-trained She's A Fox, an unraced daughter of Fastnet Rock who has been entered for Saturday's Silver Slipper Stakes.

Gai Waterhouse's Pure Hustle, one of 10 individual two-year-old winners for the trainer this season, clocked the fastest time of the five juvenile heats.

He ran 50.10s - 0.8s faster than the time recorded by highly-touted Darley colt Epaulette.

A Boxing Day winner at Rosehill, Epaulette is in a group on the fifth line of Golden Slipper betting at $17.

Premier trainer Chris Waller produced two juvenile trial winners in Fob Dubai and Catkins.

Both youngsters are owned by the Ingham Racing Syndicate.
