Bill Prain has watched Tommy Berry's rise to prominence and is hoping to combine with the high-flying apprentice for a Randwick victory on Wednesday.

Prain has two horses entered for the Kensington track meeting with Berry to partner Prince Of Capers for the Warwick Farm trainer in the Galaxy Dining Room Handicap (1300m).

Berry is riding the crest of a wave at the moment following his success aboard Karuta Queen in Saturday's $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.

Prain could easily have used a claiming apprentice for Prince Of Capers, who has 60kg in Wednesday's race, but has stuck with Berry who rode the gelding to a seven-length barrier trial win at Warwick Farm last week.

Berry outrode his claim when he scored on the Prain-trained Portos at Randwick last September.

"I have known Tommy since he was born," Prain said.

"Him and his brother Nathan are the same age as my daughter and they used to come around all the time and swim in the pool. I've known them since they were little Berrys.

"He (Tommy) likes the horse (Prince Of Capers) and was impressed with his trial."

Prain has taken off winkers and reapplied blinkers for Prince Of Capers' return to racing as the gelding searches for his first win since July 31, 2009.

"I took the blinkers off and put winkers on last preparation and he didn't race as well as I thought he could, even though he ran some good races," Prain said.

"I decided to put them back on for his trial to see how he trialled and he went super.

"He goes well for the kid and if he finds his best form he'll be more than competitive."

Prain's better chance of success could come earlier in the day with Winner Take All in the Panorama Dining Room Handicap (1400m).

Berry will be a rival to Prain in that race with Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins to ride Winner Take All and Berry to partner the Mark De Montfort-trained Italian Beauty.

Winner Take All ran on strongly for third first-up on the Kensington track last month before she ran another close third to Outstandingly and Dailika in a 1300m event at the same track on January 5.

Prain believes the mare is knocking on the door of a city win, especially from a good draw (barrier four).

"She just found a couple too good on the day last time but the horse that finished a head in front of her (Dailika) came out and won easily at Rosehill on Saturday so that franked the form a bit," Prain said.

"I couldn't be happier with her."
