A masterful display by Jim Cassidy aboard Maules Creek at Randwick showed why he is rated among the best ever.

The 48-year-old drove the $2.60 favourite between Raspberries ($5) and Chula Vista ($26) at the end of the Tamarama Handicap (1550m) to set up a three-way photo.

Maules Creek got the decision by a nose from Raspberries (Kerrin McEvoy) with a short half-head to Chula Vista (Ben Vassallo).

"I won't lay down," Cassidy said.

"I wasn't going to get beaten."

Maules Creek is a lightly-raced three-year-old from the Patinack Farm stable and has now won two of his four starts with the promise of more to come.

"He is still learning what it's about and I think once he gets to 2000 metres he will be even better," Cassidy said.

"He has a good cruising speed.

"I have ridden him in his trials and he is improving all the time."

The finish was also a learning experience for apprentice Vassallo who paid homage to Cassidy.

"I'm learning from him all the time but he'll only teach me one thing a month," he said.

The win was the second at the Wednesday meeting for Cassidy who claimed the Clovelly Handicap (1150m) aboard veteran Mindreader.

A 10-year-old with 60 starts to his name, Mindreader is trained by John McNair and is a youngster compared to his stablemate Mustard who is three years older and still competitive.

In a day for veterans, trainer Bill Prain celebrated another win by Winner Take All who backed up from a victory at the track two weeks ago to take out the Alexandria Handicap (1400m).

Prain trains for breeder Fred Peisah at Warwick Farm and Winner Take All has a special place in the stable.

"I trained her mother Royal Flutter and I trained her grand-dam Regal Chamber," Prain said.

"This one is such an honest mare.

"She went up in weight today but down in grade and won well.

"It was never in doubt from the turn.

"I'm proud of her."

Royal Flutter won one race in her six-start career while Regal Chamber gave Prain a career highlight with her win in the 1997 Magic Night Stakes followed by her third to Guineas in that year's Golden Slipper.
