More Than Great's connections bypassed a return bout with boom colt Denman in the Golden Rose but the pair appear destined to clash later in the spring at the top level.
The David Payne-trained More Than Great lines up in Saturday's Listed Ming Dynasty Handicap (1400m) at Randwick.
More Than Great comes into the race after putting up a good fight when beaten 1-1/4 lengths by Denman in the Run To The Rose (1300m) on August 15.
The More Than Ready colt got closer to Denman than any other horse this year and it was thought More Than Great would take the Lonhro colt on in Saturday's $1 million Golden Rosehill (1400m) but the owners opted not to pay the $50,000 late entry fee.
"They wanted me to put it up the money and I said `no way'," Payne said.
Denman produced a brilliant display to defeat Trusting by 1-3/4 lengths to win the Group One Golden Rose.
"I think it was a good move not to go there, he (Denman) was outstanding but he's not there this week and this race looks a much easier option," Payne said.
"All going well we will have a look at some of those big carnival races like the Caulfield Guineas."
Both Denman and More Than Great are nominated for the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10.
TAB Sportsbet has Denman as its $4 favourite for the Group One race while More Than Great is rated a $14 chance.
More Than Great is one of 10 nominations for the Ming Dynasty which includes Champagne Stakes winner Onemorenomore.
Darley trainer Peter Snowden has Offhanded and Sigma entered for the Ming Dynasty.
More Than Great won two of his three starts as a juvenile and the Run To The Rose was his first race as a three-year-old.
In June, More Than Great finished a close third to Offhanded over 1200 metres.
The Graeme Rogerson-trained Bandar finished a short neck second in the race and he came out won his first three-year-old assignment over 1300 metres last Tuesday at Randwick.
Bandar is a $51 chance for the Caulfield Guineas with TAB Sportsbet.
