Only two horses can lay claim to a victory over brilliant Cox Plate winner So You Think.

One is Starspangledbanner who relegated the Bart Cummings-trained colt to fifth in the Caulfield Guineas.

The other is More Than Great, who downed the star three-year-old by a nose in the Ming Dynasty Quality at Randwick last month.

More Than Great will be out to frank those formlines further when he chases his maiden Group One success in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday and his trainer David Payne has taken plenty of confidence from So You Think's Cox Plate win.

"It's all looking good now," Payne said.

"The Sydney three-year-old form is very strong."

Payne originally had Caulfield Guineas aspirations for More Than Great but decided to change tack and keep him to sprints following his third behind Denman and Run For Naara in the Group Two Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last month.

The colt made his Victorian debut against older horses in the Caulfield Sprint (1100m) and was far from disgraced when fifth to the promising First Command, beaten less than two lengths.

Payne was comfortable with his decision to bypass the Guineas but a Coolmore Stud Stakes victory on Saturday would be the ultimate vindication, and cement More Than Great's future career as a stallion.

"It would definitely be good, that's what he is in the race for," Payne said.

"I think he is more of a sprinter and he is nice and fresh for Saturday.

"His last run was good because he didn't get a lot of weight off the older horses and he is back to the three-year-olds now at set weights so it should be a bit easier."

Nash Rawiller has been aboard More Than Great in all three of his career wins and will reunite with him at Flemington.

The colt is one of 18 nominations for the sprint which has also attracted the entries of Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready, Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Demerit, star filly Irish Lights and talented Peter Moody-trained duo Wanted and Tickets.

Payne has also nominated Centennial Park for the AAMI Business Insurance Stakes (1400m) and Blake Shinn has been booked for the mount but the gelding is in danger of missing a start.

There are 23 nominations for the Group Three race, which is limited to a field of 14 plus four emergencies, and has attracted the likes of Group One winners Sniper's Bullet and Triple Honour along with emerging talents Eagle Falls, Fist Of Fury and Huxssen.
