David Payne has made an early decision to take on boom colt Denman in the Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick with More Than Great rather than chase a Group One victory in Saturday's weight-for-age feature, the George Main Stakes.

Payne wants to get a guide on More Than Great's Caulfield Guineas chances by going up against the yardstick for next month's 1600-metre feature.

Plenty of trainers have elected to stay away from Denman in the Group Two Stan Fox (1400m) with the filly Run For Naara taking the entries to six after just five three-year-olds were originally nominated.

Payne is not overly surprised by the small number of nominations.

"Denman has forced a lot of them out and a lot of them have been running in Melbourne," Payne said.

More Than Great defeated the highly-rated So You Think by a nose in a deceptive finish to the Listed Ming Dynasty (1400m) at Rosehill on September 5.

One run earlier, More Than Great was beaten 1-1/4 lengths by Denman in the Group Three Run To The Rose (1300m) on August 15.

"He's (Denman) a horse that's all, a good horse and you've got to take them on," Payne said.

Payne is not ruling out an upset.

"We've seen it so many times when they are really fancied like he is," Payne said.

"But the main thing for me is that More Than Great is fit and well, it's all good with him.

"It's going to be a great guide for us as far as the Caulfield Guineas is concerned."

More Than Great has three wins and two placings from his five starts.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Sister Madly, a half-sister to retired world champion sprinter Silent Witness, is among the nominations for the Stan Fox.

She is also entered for the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) on Saturday with Cummings to make up his mind later this week.

Cummings said he would look at the make-up and barrier draws of both fields before he made a final decision.

"We'll pay up for both races," he said.

"She is obviously very good but we'll see where we draw and what the fields look like."

By Redoute's Choice out of Jade Tiara, Sister Madly has had just two starts for a third on debut followed by her victory at Rosehill last Saturday week.
