Trainer David Payne will unleash two of his autumn carnival hopefuls in the coming weeks with both Centennial Park and More Than Great nearing their returns.

Payne is hoping to avoid Peter Snowden's star galloper Denman with More Than Great and said the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600m) would be his charge's main target for the autumn.

"I think Denman is staying in Melbourne so that's a relief," Payne said.

More Than Great finished second to Denman in the Group Three Run To The Rose in August, then two starts later was third to Denman in the Group Two Stan Fox Stakes.

Between those two starts, More Than Great just pipped subsequent Cox Plate winner So You Think for victory in the Listed Ming Dynasty Quality.

The More Than Ready colt hasn't raced since finishing 11th in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) won by Headway last October.

Both More Than Great and Centennial Park went around in barrier trials at Rosehill on January 22.

More Than Great is likely to return in the Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) on February 13 at Randwick, while Centennial Park is set to resume a week earlier in the Group Two Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

"They have both come back in good order," Payne said.

The pair are also among the entries for the Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 17.

"I'll just see if Centennial Park measures up to a Doncaster," Payne said.

"He's been a very honest horse."

Centennial Park ended his spring campaign with back-to-back wins culminating in a Group Three victory over 1400 metres at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.

The weight-for-age Expressway at Rosehill on Saturday is the first Sydney feature race leading into the autumn carnival.
