Peter Moody is wasting no time with promising stayer Macedonian.

The three-year-old won his only start over 1600 metres in December last year and will resume over a more testing 1800 metres in Wednesday's first division of the Allez Bijou Handicap at Sandown.

Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Conner said it was unusual for the stable to be so brazen with a young horse but Macedonian's work and pedigree suggested that the distance won't be a problem for him.

"He is going to be a 2000-metre horse so we decided not to waste any time," O'Conner said.

"While he won a maiden over a mile we don't think he would be winning city races over 1400 metres so we got him fit and stepped him straight up 1800 metres to kick off his campaign.

"Anything shorter and they would leave him flat-footed whereas this way he can stay with the bunch and finish off."

Late last month Macedonian trialled impressively at Cranbourne when he was on the losing end of a three-way photo to SA Derby placegetter Neugine and dual winner Another Thunda over 1190 metres at Cranbourne.

A son of Zabeel, Macedonian is the second foal of unraced Carnegie mare Society Walk.

His grand-dam is five-time stakeswinner Boardwalk Angel who was a sprinter-miler.

She produced The Big Ask who won the Winter Championship Final and was placed in the Galleywood Hurdle while other relatives include AJC Metropolitan Handicap runner-up Activation and Victoria Derby placegetter Marching.

Macedonian won his race debut at Cranbourne when he stormed home from near last to score by a neck.

"He is still a very immature horse and he has still got to get the hang of it all, but it was pleasing to see him win the way he did at his first start," O'Conner said.

West Australian apprentice Jarrad Noske will help the chances of Macedonian who will carry only 55.5kg after his 1.5kg claim.

Noske will also ride stablemate Saranah Gold in the second division of the Allez Bijou while Craig Newitt has the mount on another Moody runner, Dance Partner.

"They are similar fillies both coming through races against older horses and it is a good option for them to come back to three-year-old company," O'Conner said.

"They are both in their right grade (72 class) with a chance to win a city race."

Last start Dance Partner took on a similar class of fillies and mares over 1800 metres at Sandown and finished fourth, while Saranah Gold was beaten in photo-finish in a 72-class race over 1607 metres at Kilmore.
