Leigh Jordan, Australia's most astute international recruiter, heads to Europe next week in a bid to persuade connections of some of the best horses to contest the spring carnival.

''The Melbourne spring carnival has the chance to elevate its standing on the international circuit by attracting multiple runners from around the world to compete in our many group one races throughout the spring carnival,'' Jordan said yesterday. ''If we achieve this goal it puts our spring carnival on the same platform as the Dubai racing festival.''

Jordan believes that the Royal Ascot meeting unveiled some new and old prospects for the Melbourne Cup, including Brigantain, who finished third in the Ascot Gold Cup.Brigantain, trained by Frenchman Andre Fabre, is owned by international syndicate Team Valour and the managing owner has said that the drier track conditions in Melbourne would suit the horse.
