Sydney's darling Hot Danish gave trainer Les Bridge a personal triumph with a convincing victory in the Group One Doomben 10,000.

Hot Danish, ridden a treat by Tim Clark, exploded in the home straight to score by 1-1/4 lengths from Whobegotyou with Melito a short neck away third in Saturday's 1350-metre feature.

Bridge, who has won a Melbourne Cup and Golden Slipper, rated the win as one of his career highlights since he began training in 1965.

Bridge, 70, rated Hot Danish his favourite horse after the six-year-old joined an elite band of mares to claim the famous Brisbane sprint.

The only previous mares to win the Doomben 10,000 were Flitter (1994), Maybe Mahal (1977), Hamurah (1938) and High Benia (1936).

Bridge was elated with Hot Danish's win which came on the back of her first Group One triumph in the All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last month.

"How far would she have won by on a dry track?" Bridge asked.

"I was a bit worried she got so far back but coming to the turn she was in cruise control.

"It's great to win back-to-back Group Ones."

Bridge watched the race alongside his close friend, former jockey Larry Olsen, who teamed with him to win the 1987 Melbourne Cup with Kensei.

Bridge tried shielding a few tears recalling how Hot Danish cheated death early in her career.

"She had a bad injury and I watched for three hours with Percy Sykes as they operated on her to fix a sheath injury," Bridge said.

"The concern at the time was to save her life as a broodmare then when she came back to racing she had to have a year off because of EI (equine influenza)."

Hot Danish's win took her record to 14 wins from 25 starts with her prizemoney just short of $2 million.

Bridge has no plans to remain in Brisbane for the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in two weeks.

"She'll go for a spell now and won't go to the Stradbroke. I'll bring her back for the spring," he said.

Clark's victory on Hot Danish was his third at the elite level following his previous wins on the mare in the All-Aged Stakes and The Galaxy on Typhoon Zed.

Clark said Hot Danish had no trouble handling the slow track.

"She got through the track well and was able to keep her footing," he said.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh was thrilled with Whobegotyou's finishing effort for second.

"Call it good luck or bad luck but we've got no penalty now for the Stradbroke," Kavanagh said.

"He outsprinted the rest of the field by a mile. The conditions weren't perfect but we're excited."

Jockey Michael Rodd said Whobegotyou was caught three deep at the rear of the field but he was never concerned as the four-year-old was always travelling well.

"The pace was good so I tried sitting three deep and got back to last. He was cruising and happy," Rodd said.
