Popular mare Hot Danish has died after losing her battle with an infection caused by a leg injury.

The dual Group One winner suffered the injury after winning a barrier trial last month and was being treated at the Randwick Equine Centre.

Her owners made the difficult decision to euthanase Hot Danish on Sunday after vets said there was little they could do.

Trainer Les Bridge paid $32,000 for Hot Danish at the Scone yearling sale and she went on to amass more than $2.3 million in a 31 start career which netted 16 wins.

Her finest moments came last year when after multiple Group One placings she claimed the All-Aged Stakes at the Sydney autumn carnival and took her form to Brisbane to take out the Doomben 10,000.

Her regular partner Tim Clark celebrated a Group One double at Randwick on Saturday aboard Sacred Choice in the Doncaster Mile and Atomic Force in the Galaxy.

He paid tribute to the mare on Saturday as the horse which put him on the map as a rider.

Hot Danish was raced by a syndicate and sported the red and green colours of Bridge's beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league club.
