Daniel Ganderton says the coming weeks are likely to determine his immediate future in Sydney racing.

The jockey would love to stay in Sydney but admitted he would look at moving on if he could not work his way back into getting more opportunities in the near future.

"It's been a bit of a rebuilding stage for me," the 22-year-old Ganderton said.

"I have had a few maturity issues along the way and as you start to grow up you focus on what's most important.

"The next month or so will probably determine whether I stay in Sydney or venture overseas for a little while.

"I want to dig in for a while here and see how it goes.

"Ideally I would love to stay here but you've got to go where the opportunities are."

Ganderton has three rides at Canterbury on Saturday including Vintedge for premiership-leading trainer Chris Waller.

Vintedge is the third favourite in the feature race on the program, the $100,000 Lord Mayor's Cup (1900m).

The former champion Sydney apprentice has had an up and down three years since moving to Sydney from Tasmania but is hoping to make the most of the opportunity on Vintedge.

"She looks very well placed," he said.

"Her last run for third behind a very good horse in Hawk Island was good and this is a bit of a drop in grade.

"Speaking to Chris he thinks she has improved between runs and with any luck in running she should be a nice chance in the race."

Vintedge has finished third in her past two starts in the Listed Epona Stakes (1900m) and then last start in the Listed JRA Plate (2000m).

The mare was also entered for Friday's Wagga Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) but was scratched to run at Canterbury.

Ganderton rode Vintedge almost two years ago to a second placing on a heavy track at Randwick.

Pagan Princess, another Lord Mayor's Cup runner, was third in the same race.

"I was impressed by her then and thought she would reach black-type level along the way," Ganderton said ofVintedge.

"It's good to be back on her and it's a good opportunity to ride for Chris (Waller)."

Three-year-old Shootoff is the $5.50 TAB Sportsbet favourite ahead of the Waller duo of Altered Boy ($6) and Vintedge ($7.50).

Waller believes Vintedge, a Listed winner of the Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle, is heading into the race in peak condition.

"She's going great," the trainer said.

"She handles all tracks and I'd say is close to career-best form. She has found a new avenue that is just a bit easier which is middle-distance racing."
