The question has to be asked - is Daniel Ganderton getting a fair go from NSW stewards? He's just been outed for 2 months for failing to give a ho0rse every chance of winning in a race at Canterbury on July 11. There was nothing suspicious in betting trends on the race. The stewards' case was based on the fact they they thought Ganderton should have taken a run outside a horse on the turn. Ganderton's mount Bennettea rushed home to finish 5th. So all we are talking about is a possible bit of jockey error on the turn. Is that worth 2 months on the sidelines? Now, Ganderton lost his cool at the hearing and suggested the stewards were living on another planet. You can hardly blame him. He sees himself as being victimised for a losing ride on a 30/1 shot. The ban comes as he struggles to build back his career after a series of run-ins with stewards. Is this young man being targeted? One would hope not. I've looked at the video of the race many times and Ganderton's ride was no worse than a hundred others you see every week, every month.
