Apprentice Daniel Ganderton admits he struggles to find his way around Sydney's streets but he proved he knows his way around its racetracks with a winning treble at Rosehill Saturday.

The youngster, who was lured from Tasmania in March to ride for Sydney's premier trainer Gai Waterhouse, celebrated a race-to-race hat-trick on the Allan Denham-trained Strat's Flyer in the Red Rock Deli Handicap (1500m).

He earlier produced a couple of perfectly-rated frontrunning rides on Faulconbridge for his boss Waterhouse and Stacked for trainer Chris Waller.

Ganderton said he was keen to continue making the most of his opportunities while Sydney's leading riders were in Melbourne for the spring carnival.

"This is great to ride three in town but I've only been able to achieve this with hard work and I'm going to continue to keep my head down and make the most of my chances," Ganderton said.

A couple of months ago Ganderton was given a taste of what happens when you cross Waterhouse.

The youngster slept in and arrived to Rosehill late for a meeting in August and Waterhouse subsequently stood Ganderton down from riding for a couple of weeks.

"Gai gave me a good spray and explained to me what was expected and I'd say it was a real wake-up call that reminded me I was in the big smoke," Ganderton said.

"I got my driver's licence two weeks ago and drive myself to the track now.

"But I'm struggling to find my way around Sydney and took a couple of wrong turns on my way here today but I got here with plenty of time in hand.

"Gai's been so good to me, she's given me some great opportunities since I messed up and I'm thankful for those chances."

Four-year-old Faulconbridge landed his fifth consecutive win and the first of those without stable rider Nash Rawiller on board.

"He's something very special this horse and it was a pleasure to ride him," Ganderton said.

Waller praised Ganderton and Waterhouse after watching the hoop steer Stacked to her first victory in more than a year in the Sunbeam Dried Fruit And Nut Handicap (1400m).

Stacked opened a big lead on straightening and went on to hold off Estancia Rios by a half-head with Limani a half-neck away third.

"You know that when you get an apprentice of Gai's to ride they will be well schooled and very accomplished and Daniel proved that today," Waller said.

Apprentice Ben Looker, who rode Limani, was suspended for 11 meetings after shifting out onto Jeff Lloyd's mount Fantastic Angel who in turn caused interference to Estancia Rios ridden by Jim Cassidy.
