Ego's Dare is a horse who knows what he wants and trainer Gerald Ryan will be letting him have his way at Randwick on Saturday.

The four-year-old is Ryan's lone representative at the meeting and runs in the Planet Ruler Handicap (1400m).

By Hussonet out of Seattle Slew mare Almond Essence, Ego's Dare has won his last two starts by leading all the way at Gosford and then Warwick Farm.

And while Ryan believes the horse would race better parked behind the leaders, Ego's Dare has other ideas and has won the trainer over.

"We always thought he'd be a terrific horse taking a sit and that that would be his ideal pattern of racing," Ryan said.

"But he begins so quickly and puts himself right there and it would be foolish to throw away that type of advantage.

"It's what he wants to do and is his natural style, so we'll let him do it."

Ego's Dare has three wins and a second from six starts and his only couple of failures came on wet tracks.

He is tackling 1400 metres for the first time but after seeing him power to the line in his 1-1/2 length win over Shaketheground with 58kg in a 1200-metre race at Warwick Farm on October 21, Ryan has no doubts he will get the trip.

"He'll be finishing off strongly again and while this is another step up in class for him he deserves a go at it after his last couple of runs," Ryan said.

"After tomorrow I'll probably give him a freshen-up and take him to the Gold Coast for a Magic Millions race in January."

Ego's Dare was a $250,000 yearling purchase from the Magic Millions, and took a while to hit his straps.

"He had a few issues and was taking longer than we expected to get going but then I had him gelded and all of a sudden he was jumping out of the ground," Ryan said.

The bay scored by 2-1/4 lengths on debut at Canterbury in March.

Pre-post markets have Ego's Dare as $4 favourite ahead of Walking Or Dancing and Causeyacan who are equal second picks at $4.60.

The Brett Partelle-trained Walking Or Dancing finished strongly when beaten a half-head by Voice Commander over Saturday's distance at Rosehill two weeks ago.

Five-year-old Causeyacan from the Kevin Moses stable is resuming from a 21-week spell and boasts an impressive record with four wins from seven starts including a win and a second from his only two first-up runs.
