Flemington trainer Mark Kavanagh has drawn on his experience with Maldivian and will dress Dr Doute's in blinkers in the hope of a form reversal in the Australian Guineas on Saturday.

Maldivian seemingly looked out of play going into last year's Cox Plate but won the big race after Kavanagh decided to put blinkers on him.

Dr Doute's wore blinkers in three of his first four starts but raced without them when he won the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last November and at his two unplaced runs this campaign.

Kavanagh believes the time is right to put the blinkers back on the son of Redoute's Choice to get him to focus in the Guineas which has a $450,000 first prize.

At the same time Kavanagh is dismissive of the three-year-old's last two runs at Caulfield.

He said that back at Flemington and with the likelihood of a rain-affected track Dr Doute's would be a different horse.

"He likes the sting out of the ground and he saves his best races for Flemington," Kavanagh said.

Dr Doute's has raced eight times for four wins and is unbeaten in two starts on his home track.

He has also won at Morphettville and Moonee Valley but three of his four unplaced runs have been at Caulfield with the other at Sandown.

"He never races well at Caulfield and he didn't race well at Sandown," Kavanagh said.

Dr Doute's has beaten a total of four horses home at his two runs this campaign at Caulfield.

He overraced when he finished sixth in the Listed Wellington Racing Club Stakes (1400m) and two weeks ago never got into the race when 10th in the Group Two D'Urban Stakes (1400m).

"I am happy the Guineas is at Flemington," Kavanagh said.

"He is going to be better suited than he was the other day."

Luke Nolen is the new rider for Dr Doute's while Michael Rodd serves a careless riding suspension.

Dr Doute's is on the sixth line of TAB Sportsbet betting with Von Costa De Hero at $13.

The first three D'Urban Stakes placegetters lead the Guineas market with the winner Fravashi the $3 favourite ahead of third-placed Heart Of Dreams ($4.60) and runner-up Nicconi ($6.50).
