Exciting colt Dr Doute's is set to emerge from the shadow of his celebrated stablemate Whobegotyou after benefiting from a soft spring campaign.

After taking a planned low-key path with the son of Redoute's Choice, trainer Mark Kavanagh has trained him up to cut a swathe through the top three-year-old races in the coming weeks.

The AJC Australian Derby is on his radar but shorter-term the Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington is his goal.

Last start Dr Doute's posted his fourth win in six starts when he landed the Group Three Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and kicks off an ambitious autumn program in the Listed Wellington Racing Club Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Sunday.

"I am hoping that this will be his campaign," Kavanagh said.

He said Dr Doute's was protected from the top horses in the spring because he lacked the maturity of Whobegotyou.

"He hasn't done anything wrong. He has an excellent record but he just wasn't mentally as forward as the other horse (Whobegotyou).

"We pushed him in the right direction without doing too much with him and he is tougher and a lot stronger now."

Kavanagh is relying on Dr Doute's to step up while Whobegotyou recovers from a foot abscess which has delayed his autumn campaign.

Whobegotyou won the Bill Stutt Stakes, Caulfield Guineas and AAMI Vase before finishing second to Rebel Raider in the Victoria Derby.

He is TAB Sportsbet's $4.50 favourite for the Australian Guineas but is doubtful to run while Dr Doute's is at $11.

Dr Doute's only meets seven rivals at Caulfield but will enhance his Guineas prospects should he win.

VRC Oaks runner up Miss Scarlatti, Group Two winner Fravashi, as well as Nicconi and Handsupfordetriot, who have both won two of their three starts, will give Dr Doute's a good workout before his final Guineas lead-up in the Group Two Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 21.
