Corey Brown has first-hand knowledge of the two leading VRC Oaks contenders and reckons he has made the right choice by riding Sasa who takes on Brazilian Pulse at Flemington on Thursday.

The Tim Martin-trained filly made up a lot of ground to finish fifth to Brazilian Pulse in Saturday's traditional Oaks lead-up, the Wakeful Stakes (2000m), and Brown is convinced the extra 500 metres will suit.

Brown was aboard the Mike Moroney-trained Brazilian Pulse when she ran second to Sistine Angel in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on October 3.

"I ran second on her but I think she is a little bit too brilliant for an Oaks trip and I hope I'm not wrong," Brown said.

"I've watched the replays of all the top hopes and I think Sasa will outstay them all.

"I'm a bit disappointed with the barrier (11) but I'm going to ride her exactly the same way as I did the other day."

Sasa has won just one of her nine starts and missed a Group One victory by just a head when second to Skilled in the Champagne Stakes (1600m) earlier this year.

Sasa was slow out of the gates in the Wakeful, something which Brown said helped her in the end.

"She walked into the barrier and was resting on her back leg and was slowly away," Brown said.

"It wasn't the plan but it may have been a blessing because she relaxed in the run.

"I've no doubt that she will stay on that run, she was going stronger than anything at the end of the race.

"I'm not taking anything away from the winner but I reckon she (Brazilian Pulse) may be a bit sharp for the distance."

Brazilian Pulse was at $3.20 with TAB Sportsbet on Wednesday, with Sasa at $4.80 and Precious Lorraine ($6.50) the only other runners under double figures.

The David Hayes-trained Precious Lorraine was an unlucky fourth in the AAMI Vase last Saturday week won by Rekindled Interest from subsequent Victoria Derby winner Lion Tamer.
