Michael Clout's decision to sell his investment banking business to take up training racehorses full time seemed a risky one a few months ago but he was all smiles after Mondial Dame's upset win at Canterbury.

The filly made her debut in Wednesday's Elliott House Accountants Maiden (1100m) in which the experienced Withoutme started the dominant $2.30 favourite.

Mondial Dame's official starting price was $18 but she paid almost double that on the tote with punters also coming unstuck on Biancalaura who was backed from $6 to $4.80.

"We decided to sell the business 12 months ago and looking at what's happened over the past few weeks it was a good decision," Clout said.

"I'm really enjoying training full time. I've got about 16 horses in work at Wyong, half of them two and three-year-olds who will be ready to race over the next few months.

"I'm rapt that this filly won. It's my first horse for the owners and they bred her themselves so that makes it even better."

Glyn Schofield took Mondial Dame straight to the front and set a solid clip with Withoutme enjoying a cosy run in fourth.

Withoutme moved up to make her run in the straight but Mondial Dame had plenty left to give and went on to win by 2-1/4 lengths.

Withoutme was 1-1/4 lengths in front of third-placed Vintedge ($6) with Biancalaura weakening to last of the nine runners after racing handy.
