Wyong trainer Brett Partelle showed how to turn a $15,000 investment into a half-million dollar profit when Torio's Quest scored a big win in the Magic Million Guineas at the Gold Coast.

Torio's Quest fetched just $15,000 when he went though the Adelaide yearling sales in 2009 but the Oratorio gelding proved money can't buy success when he stormed home for a big win in the $1 million 1400m feature.

Torio's Quest has now had five starts for four wins and Saturday's first prize of $570,000 took his earnings to nearly $700,000, with Partelle declaring the best was yet to come.

"He's a definite Group One horse - I have no doubt about that," he said.

"I put my binoculars down at the 1000 metres and thought he would need to be a very good horse to win from where he was but he is a very good horse and he proved that."

Torio's Quest gave Partelle and stable client Bert Vieira their second feature Magic Millions victory in the past 12 months after they combined to win the MM Cup with Walking Or Dancing last year.

"The world is at his feet now," Partelle said.

"I have been calm for the past few days leading up to it but everyone else has been on edge so it's good to be able to achieve this."

Torio's Quest ($14) jumped from the extreme outside barrier and winning rider Hugh Bowman was forced to go back to near last but the horse produced a withering sprint in the straight to score by a length.

Local gelding Startsmeup ($8) ran his usual honest race to finish a game second with Top Drop ($4.20 fav) coming from well back to finish three-quarters of a length back third.

Bowman said he had no other option but to go back after the start and the leading hoop said Torio's Quest finished hard in the straight.

"He's a horse who just goes about his business and he gets the job done," Bowman said.

"The turn of foot he showed today was that of a Group One horse and the quality of this meeting is getting higher every year.

"I was a bit worried when I was that far back but once I got him out it was all over."

Craig Williams said Top Drop overraced but gave his all in the straight.

"He went great - we had a good run three deep with cover but he probably went a bit too keenly," he said.
