WITH the all-conquering Black Caviar heading to Brisbane, those who have come off second best behind the great mare are now planning to go in the opposite direction in search of group 1 success, reports The Age.
It says: Hay List and Crystal Lily will run in the $350,000 Goodwood Handicap in Adelaide on May 8 instead of tackling the unbeaten sprinting mare in Queensland.
Managing owner David Moodie confirmed yesterday that Crystal Lily would head to South Australia and is hoping that this trip will be less taxing than her last two sojourns to Sydney. At her last start, while having to contend with Black Caviar, Crystal Lily was put out of the race soon after the start and she returned to Melbourne in poor shape.
''Her last two trips north have been a disaster. When she went up for the Golden Rose she got knocked down and came home sore and then we went back for the T.J. Smith and the same happened again,'' Moodie said. ''So let's hope we can have a bit more luck in Adelaide. She's done well of late and at this stage Stephen Baster will ride her. He's done most of the riding on her so he more than likely will ride her again.''
Hay List will also run in Adelaide pending travel arrangements. Trainer John McNair also hasn't ruled out heading to Singapore for the group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200 metres) on May 22.
