JIM CASSIDY'S confidence in Maluckyday will be tested with the Melbourne Cup runner-up set to start favourite in Saturday's $2.25 million BMW at Rosehill, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

It says: Remarkably, Australia's premier weight-for-age staying contest has eluded the grand-slam-winning jockey but Cassidy is on record as saying Maluckyday has the potential to be the best stayer he has ridden.

Prepared by John Hawkes, along with sons Michael and Wayne, Maluckyday began well with a fourth in the Chipping Norton but didn't fire as favourite on a heavy track when fourth behind BMW rival Zavite in the Ranvet last Saturday week.

''He has had the benefit of two runs from a spell and a firmer track will help,'' Cassidy said.

Cassidy, who has the ride on Golden Slipper firmer Elite Falls and Triple Elegance in Saturday's George Ryder Stakes, said Maluckyday also played up in the barriers before the Ranvet.
