Canberra Cup winner Blutigeroo will be aimed at winning his second BMW in Sydney next autumn.

Trainer Colin Little had planned an easier Tasmanian program featuring the Hobart Cup on February 9 but he has spelled the seven-year-old for a crack at the $3 million feature at Rosehill.

Blutigeroo won the 2007 Hobart Cup and The BMW (2400m) but has raced only three times in the last 13 months.

"We were always going to go back to Hobart but he got 60kg in the Hobart Cup earlier this year and he would have to get something like that again next year," Little said.

Blutigeroo's long neck win over Imvula in the Canberra Cup on November 30 has buoyed Little's confidence to aim higher despite the gelding's advancing years.

The Canberra Cup was only his third start since he suffered severe buffeting when third last in Efficient's 2007 Melbourne Cup.

"It took him a long time to get over that Melbourne Cup," Little said.

"We brought him back a couple of times in the last year but we weren't happy with him so we turned him out again."

A winner of 12 of his 40 starts and more than $2 million, Blutigeroo finished among the tailenders at his first two runs in the spring but appreciated the jump from 1400 to 2000 metres in Canberra where he charged home from midfield to win.

"He seemed to have slipped a notch for a while but his Canberra Cup win was pretty sound," Little said.

"We will look at the Australian Cup but I would really like to give him another shot at the BMW," Little said.

"He will be meeting tougher horses in the autumn than he would in Tasmania but at least he will meet them pretty well at the weights."

Little said Ista Kareem felt the hard track when he finished 13th in the Canberra Cup but he will fly the flag for the stable in both the Hobart and Launceston Cups.

This year he finished third in the Hobart Cup and won the Launceston Cup.

"We have given him seven or eight days off to freshen him up," Little said.

"He is better suited in Tasmania because he likes the sting out of the ground and the climate down there is cooler."
