History shows that two of the best horses to pass through Gai Waterhouse's stable - Grand Armee and Desert War - failed to run out the 2400 metres of the BMW.

Both were frontrunners like Theseo, her contender this year, but Waterhouse says he compares more favourably to another of her great horses, Stony Bay, who did win the race.

"People want to look at the most recent ones but Theseo is a horse in the mould of Stony Bay," Waterhouse said.

"And I think he is looking for 2400 metres."

Like Theseo, Stony Bay won the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) before he tackled the BMW but he did the double as a three-year-old before running fifth in the AJC Australian Derby.

Theseo is a more seasoned horse at five and has three Group One wins to his name this season.

While Desert War found the 2400 metres too far when fourth to Blutigeroo in 2007, it took the great mare Makybe Diva to run Grand Armee down two years earlier.

She had already won two Melbourne Cups before her BMW triumph and it is another Melbourne Cup winner who poses the biggest threat to Theseo.

Viewed won Australia's most famous race in 2008 but perhaps more importantly won the Brisbane Cup on a wet track earlier in the year by seven lengths.

Theseo won the Epsom Handicap (1600m) on a slow track with Rosehill predicted to be heavy on Saturday.

Waterhouse said in her opinion, a heavy track would not worry him.

"He has been working brilliantly and he will give them a run for their money," she said.

Theseo's jockey Nash Rawiller is equally confident.

"All the hype has been about Viewed and that's fair enough," Rawiller said.

"He's got the wet track form and he runs the distance.

"But my bloke has never let me down."

Early markets have Viewed at $2.50 ahead of Theseo at $3.40 with 2007 Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly a $6 chance.

Master O'Reilly has been installed the $6.50 favourite for the Sydney Cup (3200m) on April 25 with confirmation Viewed's Bart Cummings-trained stablemate Moatize is out for the rest of the autumn.

Moatize was due to run in the BMW but was found to have a knee injury on Tuesday and, after further examination, Cummings aborted the rest of his campaign.
