THE results of a second ECG following a track gallop at Caulfield this morning (Tuesday) will determine the immediate future of Singapore mare Jolie's Shinju after the results of an initial test failed to clear the mare to start in Saturday's Yalumba Stakes, reports The Age.

It says: Jolie's Shinju was diagnosed as having the thumps, a hyper-stimulated diaphragm, as well as a heart arrhythmia, following her poor run in the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago, but it is the latter that concerns Racing Victoria's chief veterinarian Paul O'Callaghan.

O'Callaghan conducted the initial ECG on Jolie's Shinju at Sandown last Saturday but he could not give the mare a clean bill of health.

''Following her run at Moonee Valley Jolie's Shinju had a heart arrhythmia, an occasional extra beat, and after examining the horse after exercise on Saturday and conducting an ECG, I could still hear the extra beat,'' O'Callaghan said.

''The effect of that beat during exercise needs to be determined. It might just be that it is the way she is and that it is an unusual case, but we have to determine if it presents a risk during exercise.''
