When your half-sister is unbeaten and a former Golden Slipper Stakes favourite then there is plenty of room for optimism.

The Mike Moroney-trained Youbolt is a half-brother to Amelia's Dream who a year ago won the Silver Slipper Stakes by more than six lengths after blitzing her rivals by nine lengths at her race debut at Canterbury.

The daughter of Redoute's Choice was being hailed a superstar but hasn't raced since those exciting wins.

Injury forced her out of the Golden Slipper and a hock injury has sidelined her for the autumn.

Youbolt is by Exceed And Excel and, still a colt, looks cheap after being bought for $160,000 at last year's Melbourne Premier Sale.

His two runs to date pale in comparison to the explosive start Amelia's Dream had to her career but he would swamp the modest $2,792 he has earned so far should he claim the $150,000 first prize in Saturday's $250,000 Inglis Premier (1200m) at Caulfield.

"He's definitely got to be in the top four or five chances," Moroney said.

Youbolt was a fading fifth at his Seymour race debut and was beaten nearly eight lengths when third to runaway winner Essaouira at Moonee Valley earlier this month.

Moroney said Youbolt was a November foal but had so far handled his campaign well.

"We tossed around going on to this race but he has kept eating," Moroney said.

"He still has a little bit to learn but he keeps improving."

The Inglis Premier is restricted to Inglis yearling sale graduates and in Saturday's race only Viking Legend ($165,000) cost more than Youbolt.

While Youbolt is an outsider at $26, Viking Legend is the $2.90 favourite with TAB Sportsbet after the Gai Waterhouse-trained colt, ridden by Brad Rawiller, scored a courageous win at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.

Craig Newitt is the new rider and said that apart from the Lee Freeman-trained Exceedingly French, who cost $150,000, it looked a "very moderate race".

"He (Viking Legend) will jump and race on the speed and is very fit," Newitt said.

"If he produced that run again he would be hard to beat."

Exceedingly French suffered her first defeat in three starts when sixth to Rostova in the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude and will race in blinkers for the first time.

Meanwhile, Essaouira, also trained by Freedman, stands out as the horse to beat in Saturday's Listed Chairman's Stakes (1100m).

The daughter of Exceed And Excel is third favourite at $13 for the Golden Slipper and needs to win to justify that quote and her odds-on price on Saturday.

The Mick Price-trained Silkyanna is having her first start and is a half-sister to stablemate Nine Tales who is one of the favourites for Saturday's Listed JRA Stakes (1200m).

Nine Tales in unbeaten in three starts this campaign since being gelded last year.
