AFTER temporarily being put in the shade by the unbeaten Smart Missile's remarkable win at Rosehill on Saturday, champion three-year-old Sepoy is poised to re-claim the spotlight this Saturday at Flemington, according to trainer Peter Snowden, reports The Age.
It says: Snowden watched Smart Missile launch late and win the Run To The Rose, but, while impressed by what he saw from the Anthony Cummings-trained colt, it was the effortless win of Golden Archer at Caulfield that reminded him of just how dominant Sepoy had been when resuming just two weeks earlier.
Sepoy beat Golden Archer by 2ยข lengths when he resumed in the Vain Stakes two weeks ago and expectations are that he will have at least that margin again over his rivals in Saturday's group 2 Danehill Stakes. For all the comparisons between Sepoy - a multiple group 1 winner of almost $3 million in stakes - and Smart Missile, the only horse to topple Sepoy, the pair are unlikely to meet this spring. Sepoy is taking a pure sprinting path while Smart Missile shoots for the $1 million double of the Golden Rose next month at Rosehill and the Caulfield Guineas in October.
Snowden's enthusiasm for Sepoy was obvious. ''He couldn't have pleased us more since his first-up run,'' he said. ''He's in great order and I expect him to race so.'' (www.theage.com.au)
