The Peter Snowden stable can't fault odds-on favourite Sepoy who is poised to peak in Saturday's $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

The unbeaten colt is set to become the second shortest-priced favourite in the history of Victoria's premier juvenile event.

"He's great and we are quite adamant that he's still got improvement to come and he's now at a level where he can perform at 110 per cent on Saturday," Snowden's son Paul, his Melbourne-based assistant trainer, said.

"We're very happy with our bloke and can't wait for Saturday.

"He's in great shape and we can't fault the horse in any aspect of his whole preparation."

The Elusive Quality two-year-old has been dominant in his three starts to date, winning the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at (1000m) Flemington last spring by a length from Delago's Lad and returning this campaign for two 3-1/2 length wins at Caulfield.

They were in the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) over Grand Britannia on January 26 and the Prelude (1100m) from Running Tall on February 12.

The stocky chestnut will follow in the footsteps of Rancher (1982), Midnight Fever (1987) and Bel Esprit (2002) and make a clean sweep of the Blue Diamond series if successful.

Snowden said the good draw (barrier five) was also in Sepoy's favour and he wasn't perturbed about the colt stepping up to 1200m for the first time.

He said Kerrin McEvoy, owner Sheikh Mohammed's number one stable rider in Australia who is replacing Mark Zahra, has ridden Sepoy twice in trackwork in the past week.

"He'd never laid eyes on the horse until last Tuesday but he's very impressed with what he's seen," Snowden said.

"His relaxed attitude and his ability to sit on the pace on race day have impressed him the most."

Snowden said there was no set game plan apart from leaving the gates cleanly and then letting McEvoy sort it out from there.

"He's very adaptable, he can sit off or lead so I don't think we'll be telling Kerrin too much on the day," he said.

While the job still had to be done on Saturday, Snowden conceded that he wouldn't be surprised if Sepoy continued on towards the $3.5 million Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 2 given the five-week break between the features.

Sepoy has been heavily supported from $1.70 in to $1.60 favouritism with Sportingbet Australia.

"We took bets of $20,000, $1000 and three of $5000 at the $1.70 and then we got another bet of $50,000 after we had turned him off to $1.60," Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.

"We have taken well over $100,000 on him since the barrier draw and punters don't want to back anything else.

"Over 95 per cent of the money we are holding on the Blue Diamond has been for Sepoy.

"He is a lot shorter than stars such as Bel Esprit ($2 favourite in 2002) and Alinghi ($2.15 favourite in 2004) were in the Blue Diamond and they were truly dominant in their years."

Hallowell Belle is second pick at $9 with Atomic at $10, Anevay at $16, Running Tall at $17 and Envious and Holdontoyahorses next at $21.

In the history of the Blue Diamond, which was first run in 1971, only 1982 winner Rancher ($1.40 fav) has started shorter than Sepoy's current quote.

Of the five favourites to be sent out odds-on in the race, only Rancher has won.
