In-form jockey Corey Brown has all but committed himself to riding top New Zealand galloper Red Ruler in the Caulfield Cup.

Brown was impressed with the John Sargent-trained four-year-old who finished strongly when second to Princess Coup in the Group One Kelt Capital Stakes (2040m) at Hastings on Saturday.

"I've been in contact with them for a while and I liked what I saw from him on the weekend," Brown said on Monday.

"They've sent me over a few DVDs and I'll sit and watch those over the next couple of days and make a decision but at this stage I would say it's almost certain that I will ride him."

Red Ruler will be making his second Australian visit after finishing second in last season's AJC Australian Derby at Randwick.

Brown has been in brilliant form since returning to Sydney from Melbourne, where he was stable rider for Lee Freedman.

On Saturday at Randwick he celebrated a winning double, highlighted by the Peter Snowden-trained Sousa scoring in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes.

He then rode stablemate Neroli to victory in the Angst Stakes.

The $2.55 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) will be run on October 18.
