Jockey Michael Rodd says Whobegotyou can win a battle of tactics and land the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley for the second year in a row.

Rodd said Australian Racehorse of the Year Typhoon Tracy was almost certain to dictate the pace in Saturday's small field of eight which would enable the Mark Kavanagh-trained galloper to capitalise on his "lightning" turn of foot.

"It looks like the mare (Typhoon Tracy) is going to have a nice time in front and it will be sprint home," Rodd said.

"It is going to be a race of tactics but my bloke has got a lightning turn of foot and I think if they go steady enough he can probably outsprint them.

"I don't think it is going to be a hard-run mile (1600m) tomorrow so it shouldn't be out of his reach."

The Dato Tan Chin Nam is seen as a three-horse race between TAB Sportsbet favourites Shoot Out ($2.80), Typhoon Tracy ($3) and Whobegotyou ($3.20).

Last start Whobegotyou beat home third-placed Shoot Out and fourth-placed Typhoon Tracy when he was second to So You Think first-up in the Group Two Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

It was reminiscent of his second in last year's Memsie to Mic Mac before winning the Dato Tan Chin Nam.

Whobegotyou would be only the fourth multiple winner of the Moonee Valley feature which was first run as the Feehan Stakes in 1949.

Lad In The Manor is the most recent dual winner in 2005-06 while Lawman won in 1981-82 and Shorengro won three years in a row from 1968-70.

Rodd told Sport 927 that his plan was to plot a safe course one off the fence to ensure Whobegotyou would have clear galloping room when he needed it.

"We have drawn barrier three but I won't be going to the fence," Rodd said.

"I will leave myself some options."

Jockey Stathi Katsidis said that speed-mappers would probably have Shoot Out settling second in the Dato Tan Chin Nam but he was not so sure that the race would pan out that way.

Katsidis said he erred in the Memsie by forcing Shoot Out to race closer than normal.

"I made the mistake by trying to keep him up there and it took the sprint out of him," Katsidis said.

Luke Nolen has warned punters not to discount Typhoon Tracy on her Memsie run when she led.

He said she tired on the slow part of the track at Caulfield and would improve on Saturday.
