Champion jockey Damien Oliver has sewn up another plum spring ride with trainer Mark Kavanagh announcing he will be on the favourite Whobegotyou in the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 24.

Kavanagh said on the TVN show Two Cups and A Plate that Oliver would ride Whobegotyou while Michael Rodd would be aboard reigning Cox Plate champion Maldivian.

Rodd has been the regular rider of both horses throughout their careers and won the Caulfield Guineas on Whobegotyou last spring.

But Oliver was aboard the four-year-old son of Street Cry when he broke a run of eight defeats with an impressive victory in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 12.

Rodd rode Whobegotyou when he was runner-up to Heart Of Dreams in the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

Oliver had a prior engagement to ride the Danny O'Brien-trained Vigor, who finished sixth, in the Underwood and he will also ride the O'Reilly five-year-old in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday week.

Craig Williams, who rode Maldivian for the first time when he ran an encouraging fourth in the Underwood, will ride the Zabeel seven-year-old in the Turnbull as Rodd will miss the race due to a careless riding suspension.

Kavanagh said after the Underwood that Whobegotyou would have one more run before the Cox Plate (2040m) in the Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 10.

Oliver has a strong hand in the spring features having already this week been booked for the Luca Cumani-trained Cima De Triomphe in the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 17.

Cima De Triomphe, weighted to carry 55.5kg, has a win over high-class stayer Conduit to his credit in the Group Three Brigadier Gerard Stakes (2018m) at Sandown in England three starts back on May 28.

Oliver has also been booked to ride the Cumani-trained Basaltico in the Group Three Geelong Cup (2400m) on October 21.

He has no Melbourne Cup booking at this stage.

Basaltico is qualified for the Melbourne Cup and is 39th in the elimination order while Cima De Triomphe is yet to pass the first elimination clause but can do so by finishing in the first eight in the Caulfield Cup.

Both Cumani stayers arrive in Melbourne on Saturday as do Godolphin horses Kirklees and Crime Scene who are both second acceptors in the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate.
