Victorian horseman Stuart Webb wears a couple of different hats and he will need both of them at Rosehill on Saturday.

Webb is the right-hand man to Aquanita trainer Robert Smerdon who will saddle up Lady Lynette in the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m).

He is also the trainer of Yosei who will line up against crack fillies Solar Charged and Military Rose in the Group Two Reisling Stakes (1200m).

Webb linked with Smerdon a couple of years ago after deciding to all but give training away.

He used to have a team of between 30 and 40 in work but the demands of the job didn't correlate with the demands of a young family.

He still keeps his hand in the training pot with a boutique team of four, including last year's The Vanity placegetter Rapid Sensation, but Yosei is the current flag-bearer.

The pint-sized filly, retained to race by breeder John Pittard after being passed in for $14,000 as a weanling, has proven to be a surprise packet.

"Eight weeks ago I rang her owner and said I'd trial her and put her in the paddock," Webb said.

"But every time I did a bit more with her she thrived and I think she's still on the way up.

"She's done all this on one preparation, hence the reason she isn't entered for any of the better races. She wasn't even in the stables when the noms for them closed."

Not only did Yosei get to the races, she won her debut at Benalla by four lengths then was placed in stakes company in Adelaide before an unlucky third to Shamrocker in the Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes last start.

On Saturday she will face another stiff rise in class but Webb isn't in Sydney to make up the numbers.

"Obviously the Magic Millions filly's (Military Rose) form is good but plenty have had a break after the Magic Millions then come to Sydney and not gone on with it," Webb said.

"The Kindergarten winner Solar Charged has great form but below those two it's reasonably open.

"I'd love to win but realistically the top two, if they run up to their best, look hard to beat.

"But if they have no luck in running, you never know."

Yosei isn't in the Golden Slipper and will have to stage a major upset and win the Reisling for her owners to consider paying the $150,000 late entry fee.

The filly will also be paid up for The Jansz in Adelaide on Saturday but Webb says she is "99 per cent" sure to head to Sydney.

Regular rider Michelle Payne will again have the mount and Yosei has drawn ideally in barrier one while Military Rose has gate five and Solar Charged the outside draw in eight.
